Alchemy Goods
Their mission is simple: “Turning useless into useful." Alchemy is the medieval science of turning lead into gold. More generally, it means magically turning something of lesser value into something of greater value. For Alechemy Goods, the value isn’t economical so much as ecological. They look for materials that are normally discarded that might have value with a little bit of imagination and some hard work. Every Alchemy Goods bag or accessory purchased represents one less part of our world destroyed. That’s why all their products should have the highest possible recycled content, but also be superbly functional and aesthetically pleasing. The logo intentionally looks like the periodic table. The number in the upper right hand corner represents the percent (by weight) of recycled material in the product you purchased. This Seattle based company is making some very useful things indeed.
ANGeLRoX
ANGeLRox designer Roxi Sugar utilizes natural, renewable fabrics to create comfortable, timeless garments. Based in Brooklyn, NY, she supports local suppliers (with only her denim products made overseas in factories which guarantee fair labor practices). Her signature wings have spread to the left coast, and Radish Underground is honored to be the first boutique in Portland to carry her line.
Aster Park
Brought to life right here at Radish Underground by co-owner Celestial Sipes, Aster Park uses reclaimed fabric (the ultimate in 'green' material) and is handmade right here in Portland. AP has an affinity for the versatile and always has at least one reversible garment a season. Because the fabric used is reclaimed, there is only so much of a particular color or pattern, so each design is unique and totally rad (or Rad-ish, if you will).
Bodybag by JUDE
This clubwear/streetwear line was founded by the daring and avant-garde designer Judith Desjardins. Bodybag is the external layer of an awareness rooted in insight on things transient and permanent, on life and death, on the beauty of humans and the world that surround them. The Bodybag look is reknown for the styles cut from various styles and materials, allowing the sense of detailed chic and sensual well being to shine through. Noteworthy is the ingenious combination of materials such as knittings, microfleece, denim and corduroy. One sees more than merely zippers, hoods and elegant lines, but the very definition of the Bodybag aesthetic. The elements with which each woman can express a truly unique style. A fantastic new addition to the Radish family, this Canadian line is manufactured completely in Montreal from fabrics gathered all over the world.

Heather Treadway
Master seamstress, Heather Treadway is a designer living in Portland OR. For the last 8 years she has been running the label “Paperdoll Fashion” and is now releasing her new eponymous line. Her designs have been described as soft geometry or ready-to-wear sportswear with a decidedly current edge. By incorporating delightful and functional extras in her clothing such as hidden pockets with zippers and colorful snaps and toggles, Heather’s complicated and innovative designs define her signature style. Her materials of choice include: ripstop nylon, silk georgette, denim and cotton/lycra jersey. In addition to designing, Treadway plays in the band “Explode Into Colors” and has recently opened the new studio/gallery space “Second Nature”, 811 E. Burnside, with fellow designer Emily Katz.
JET Designs
This fantastic day to night, go anywhere collection out of Hood River, OR is classic, feminine and edgy. They say their designs are "made to fly"--and when you where them you'll feel the wind in your hair! Owned and operated by Jennifer and Emily Thomas, a dynamic mother-daughter duo who are ever conscious of our planet in their work. They choose natural fibers for easy care, long lasting wear and comfort, and produce locally to sustain our economy. What a wonderful way to fly!
juleselin
Not only are the juleselin products made of organic or recycled fabric, but each garment has a real live woman as the inspiration. Designer Juile Elin Burnbaum interviews someone near and dear and they (and their lifestyle) are the mascot for that garment. Each juleselin piece is individually made in a friendly sweatshop-free environment in San Francisco, CA where rent is high, labor is costly and standards are strictly enforced. The juleselin line aims to be completely comfortable, simply fabulous, ageless, practical and work appropriate.

Keiran Donnelly
Among his many talents, the charming artist from New Zealand creates functional sculptures in the form of one-of-a-kind, handmade lamps carried exclusively in the USA by Radish Underground. Pulled together from various old fixtures and his signature cast pewter 'feet & wings', these pieces are all unique, charming and simply beautiful. Each lamp was built here in Portland on his last visit to the States.

Keith McQueen Jewelry
Keith has a ten year background in Jewelry and metal sculpture. In 2008 he completed work on Laika’s first feature film “Coraline” as the lead Model builder. His experience in the film industry lends to a totally unique approach to jewelry, and his pieces are unlike anything we've seen before. Using natural elements cast in metal like crickets, snake vertebrae, and branches, Keith creates wearable artwork that shows both his skill as a master craftsman and as a storyteller weaving dark and romantic themes into the work. Stunning and irresistible, we're thrilled to be carrying his line of chokers, lapel pins, computer component earrings, and everyday aluminum 'saying' bracelets.

This is the first organic cotton line produced by designer Kelly Marie Barry, and her intention is to create unique, comfortable clothing for the conscious consumer. Other environmentally friendly fabrics in the line include bamboo and organic wool. When you wear her garments you feel the soft drape of the natural fabrics, and the knowledge that you can have 'fashion without consequence' makes you feel pretty cozy too. Kelly B is proud to be made in the USA.
Lulu Recycles
For centuries, women have loved sparkly things and interesting baubles. Designer Rebecca Macy has been collecting pieces from women friends' jewelry boxes for decades. And now you can share the jewelry treasures of women from vaudeville wannabes to first generation hippies, but together by Rebecca for you to enjoy. Minor Poet is the name of Kerrryann Kimbrell’s collection of limited and one of kind clothing created to make you feel confident and relaxed. She has a BA in Apparel Design and experience creating costumes for dance productions and clothing for individuals.
Some of the things that inspire her are modernism, modern thought, light, color, shadow, and natural fibers.

My Little Fingers
My Little Fingers' items are handmade with much love and feverish devotion by Diana Pingul in Portland, Oregon. Often collaborating with her graphic designer husband, the duo focuses on detail, fine construction and inspired design of useful accessories and playful objects. My Little Fingers creates colorful, cosmopolitan craft with every effort made to utilize recycled, closeout and found ingredients. Great care is given to reducing waste during prototyping and production for all goods. Measuring twice. Cutting once. Joy, responsibility and beauty.
nam kim
Nam Kim has created a style based on innovation and devotion and we are carrying several of her beautifully handmade leather and canvas bags. She infuses all of her products with whimsical spirit, assured utility, richly tactile material and discerning craftsmanship. Having gone to RISD for Industrial Design, her designs draw inspiration from the detail of an image or object, or the material itself will dictate the shape, structure and size of her fantastic bags. With the exception of few bags, all bags are handmade by Nam herself, and she gets all her materials from a leather shop in NYC (imported from Italy).

Paloma Soledad cultivated her style in Hollywood hits, such as “Cabin Fever” and “Hostel.” Her custom designs blend elements of fantasy and the macabre with fine tailoring and vintage details. Her one-of-a-kind corsets and waist cinchers are exquisite works of art for the body. Clients have included writer Terry Rossio and director Eli Roth. Her most recent work can be found in Henry Selick’s (director of “The Nightmare Before Christmas”) new feature film, “Coraline,” released in February ‘09 .

preloved is consciously created from reclaimed fabrics, designed and manufactured in Canada. This company save fabric from all kinds of sources that have been loved in another lifetime, and puts them back together to create fabulous and fashionable garments. One particular favorite sweater of ours has a tag that reads: "By wearing preloved, you have helped rescue over 60,000 wool sweaters, 20,000 wool trousers, 10,000 dress shirts 7,000 trench coats from landfills". In short, we love preloved.

Constructed in Seattle, WA, each shirt and bag has style and function written all over it. We love the versatility and quality of this fun line of clothing and accessories. Shirts feel like butter and the bags will get you through the long Northwest winter and right on into the rockin' summer with a smile.

In early 2004, when Chika was an intern at R.E.Load bags, she was sat in front of a scrap bin and told to make something. An hour later, she held a wallet and was encouraged to make more. Having a limitless supply of free cordura and vinyl scraps doubled the reasons to keep going. Many wallets later, Chika met Jean, and making her best business decision to date, asked her to partner in the design, manufacture, and selling of their growing line of products. Together they make up randLCanvas--the line of notebooks currently being rocked at Radish Underground (limited edition artwork by Jessica&Arlo of Slow Loris!). Handsome color & material choices, simple yet clever construction, all made from start to finish by Chika&Jean in their Seattle studio.

Reif is a Portland, OR based fashion haus with its hands in the past, mind in the present, and eyes on the future. Designer Lindsey Reif believes that as the world around us continues to grow and change, so too must our clothing. Reif draws inspiration from the past to create pieces for the future. Taking classic cuts and silhouettes and translating them into modern pieces ready to move forward with the wearer. Garments that will stand the test of time and spend more time on shoulders and hips than in closets. Their choice of modern and sustainable fabrics molds a look that is both fashion forward and socially progressive. Their motto is the German expression, “die Zeit is reif”, which means “the time is ripe”. The modern consumer is consistently flooded with the uninspired and mass produced. Hand-pounded sterling silver, raw gemstones & my signature molten silver droplets are the core elements of the newest collection. Sahlia Michelle Designs is run using sustainable business practices. All materials are reused, recycled & purchased locally whenever possible. Custom pieces are also available. Second was founded in Montreal in 2000 by Éric Wazana. The company specializes in up-market jeans, including Second’s Yoga Jeans, named the best women’s jeans by a number of magazines (carried at Radish Underground!). Second is keen on keeping the lines within the local economy and encouraging support for local designers. It is known for the quality of its cuts and for its social conscience, reflected in its 100% Quebec production and its constant search for new ecological fibres to use in its clothing. The latest S(eco)nd collection is the natural extension of the company’s collective vision.
The Smooth Company
Born in the sand and saltwater, The Smooth Company effortlessly blends modern style and wearable ease. They are inspired by love for a lifestyle that spans from the most private of beaches to the busiest of cities around the globe. The line radiates a cool causality in every situation, while maintaining a strong tie to their roots in the ocean sides of Southern California. Produced conscientiously in their own private factories abroad, we are stoked to be introducing The Smooth Company as one of the first men's line to our floor!
Steel Toe Studios
Steel Toe Studios is a design and metalsmithing company in Seattle, Washington. It is owned, operated and comprised of one Erica Gordon, a trained blacksmith artist and designer. The belts are informed by her industrial surroundings as well as other media such as cinema and architecture. Each piece is hand made using a variety of techniques from her different fields of interest, such as blacksmithing, jewelry and painting. Look for her recycled bike cog belt buckle in our webstore!

Suzabelle
Suzabelle's designs are innovative, feminine, classic, and designer Suzanne Jaberg was recently dubbed the "Seattle Coat Queen" by the Seattle Times. One of the few lines we support that are produced over seas, Suzabelle's goal in production is to provide great living wages and work environments for women in smaller, less-develped countries. Their production manager visits the manufacturers weekly to ensure everything is running smoothly and that all aspects of development are socially responsible. They use natural fiber materials and dyes whenever possible and source their fabrics and labor within the same community. We simply love every single piece we can get our hot little hands on.
Thundies (are GO!)
Known as "THUNDIES" on this side of the pond, Radish Underground is incredibly proud to be the only US distributer of these comfy, stylee undies for action folk of all ages. In 1995 a couple of chicks were frustrated by an undie market which either had them squirming all day in wee lace numbers or flopping about in sexless granny bloomers. In a mix of desperation and inspiration, they created their ideal undie - a delicious mix of 92% cotton and 8% lycra, cut for comfort and style without a shred of elastic, handprinted in fab original wood-cut designs. From that moment, THUNDERPANTS were go! All products are proudly NZ made. Wear with pride. (Available for both Men & Women).
